ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE (E-STIM)

Electro-acupuncture is the term used to refer to the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture needles, or even without needles, to acupuncture points on the body. The current is usually 40-80 volts, however no current is actually transmitted through the body— there is only enough stimulation for the patient to feel a slight pulsating sensation. A standard treatment session usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes and rarely exceeds half an hour.

Electro-Acupuncture (E-Stim) is the application of extremely small amounts of current to the acupuncture needles.  Professional acupuncture specific equipment is used to safely select optimal amperage and frequency settings based on the patient’s presentation.  Electro-Acupuncture adds additional stimulation to the acupuncture points and can thus enhance the therapeutic effects.  It is especially beneficial for aiding recovery from sports injuries by strengthening tendons, quickening bone healing, and in cases of surgery, decreasing the likelihood of infection.  Electro-Acupuncture is also commonly used for pain management, constipation, weight loss, wound healing, and much more.

When studied on a cellular level, the affects of electro-acupuncture have yielded some magnificent results.  Most notably, it greatly increases cellular production of ATP which is the primary energy carrier for the body necessary for all various cellular processes.  With more available ATP more cellular repair, rejuvenation, and regeneration can take place and thus healing can be accelerated.

Electro-acupuncture, or e-stim, refers to the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture points on the body. Developed in China in the 1930’s, e-stim allows for increased stimulation of acupuncture points, strongly promoting the flow of Qi and blood, and is especially beneficial for pain, spasms, and neurological issues.

Small electrodes are attached to acupuncture needles already inserted, providing gentle and steady stimulation to the points. This gives the patient a slight pulsating or vibrating sensation, and often leads to deep relaxation. The release of endorphins through e-stim can also help naturally relieve stress and pain, as well as improve mood.
